Description
A half-day course designed to provide the skills necessary to perform rescues from a Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) in compliance with HSE and Safe Working At Height regulations.
The MEWP Evacuation course equips utility workers and MEWP operators with the skills to perform emergency rescues from a Mobile Elevating Work Platform. In alignment with Safe Working at Height (SWAH) regulations, this course covers the selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), rescue equipment assembly, safe operation, and casualty handling. Participants will gain essential knowledge of risks and hazards, suspension trauma management, and the specific rescue techniques required to safely evacuate individuals from elevated positions in a MEWP.
Compliance

Working at Height Regulations 2005, HSE guidance on MEWP safety.

Previous knowledge

Familiarity with Working at Height regulations is recommended.

Requirements

Aged 18+. Physically fit for practical tasks.

Progression

Refresher training is recommended refresher every 2 years.

Theoretical elements

– Overview of Working at Height (WAHR) legislation and MEWP-specific safety
– Selection, use, and maintenance of PPE for MEWP rescue
– Identification of hazards associated with MEWP rescues

Practical elements

– Assembling and dismantling MEWP rescue equipment
– Operating the rescue device safely, including descent control
– Handling and safely relocating the casualty from a suspended position
