Goal

Description
This course provides participants with essential skills to respond safely and effectively to offshore emergencies, covering survival techniques, equipment usage, and safe transfers.
The GWO Sea Survival module equips participants with the knowledge and skills to act responsibly in offshore work environments, both during normal operations and emergencies. Through theoretical instruction and practical exercises, participants learn techniques for managing cold water immersion, utilising life-saving appliances, and performing controlled water entries and rescues. The course also covers safe vessel-to-turbine transfers, the use of survival equipment, and techniques for increasing individual and collective survival chances in emergencies. The training aligns with GWO standards and prepares participants to safeguard their safety and that of their colleagues.

Previous knowledge
All participants must have attended a working at height safety course and be able to perform comprehensive basic rescue from height.
Requirements
Participants should be physically capable of completing practical exercises and must adhere to GWO prerequisites.
Progression
Participants can advance to other GWO BST modules or refresher courses as required.
Theoretical elements
– Understanding cold water immersion risks, including hypothermia, cold shock, and drowning.
– Knowledge of life-saving appliances (LSA) and personal protective equipment (PPE).
– Introduction to search and rescue (SAR) principles and the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS).
