Vehicles in Water Rescue for Water First Responders
Goal
To enable delegates to plan and execute successful casualty rescues from various types of vehicles in water, implementing appropriate rescue methods and considering medical implications.
Target group
Water First Responders who want to be better prepared for responding to incidents involving vehicles in water.
Highlights
Specialist training for complex vehicle-in-water rescues.
Options for both MOD 2 and MOD 3 responders, with tailored rescue techniques.
Practical, scenario-based training at venues with controlled water rapids and access to submerged vehicles.
Description
This 1-day course focuses on the practical application of Rescue from Vehicles in Water utilising the skills covered in the Water First Responders Course (Mod 2)
The Rescue from Vehicles in Water course allows for the practical application of the skillsets that can only be covered in theory on the Water First Responder course. The course re-caps on the basic theoretical knowledge in the classroom and then is predominantly focused on practical drills in executing the various rescue methods. This one-day version of the course utilises only the skillsets of a Water First Responder (DEFRA Mod 2), which are non-buoyant options. These courses are delivered at suitable white water centres which allow a car to be placed in a controlled moving water environment. Delegate will learn hazard awareness relating to vehicles in water, methods of vehicle stabilisation, incident management, and casualty management. Following this training, delegates will have practical experience of rescuing from vehicles in water and will be far better prepared to safely respond to these incidents than the basic skillsets and awareness required at the Water First Responder (Mod 2) or Water Rescue Technician (Mod 3) level.
Compliance
Aligned with DEFRA water rescue standards for MOD 2 and MOD 3.
Previous knowledge
In-date DEFRA Mod 2 compliant award (or higher) (issued within 3 years)
Requirements
Age 18+. Delegates must be fit for physical training requiring the delegates to be competent in all Water First Responder (Mod 2) skillsets.
Progression
Recertification is recommended every 2 years by means of re-attending this course.
