HART Confined Space

Description
This course specifically addresses the training needs of Hazardous Area Response Teams to meet the requirements of TIS NH06, and includes industrial High Risk Confined Space competencies.
Specifically designed for HART trusts, this course equips delegates with a comprehensive knowledge of High-Risk Confined Space working to the standard typical within industry. In addition to this, the course ensures that the content is adapted to be relevant for HART trusts, satisfying the training requirements as defined in TIS NH06 for Confined Space. Such adaptions include the use of HART specific equipment, such as EDBA and Sav Ox rebreather emergency escape sets, working alongside partner agencies and familiarity with partner agency rescue systems, trench rescue awareness and with scenarios engineered to be representive of those in which HART is called upon to provide casualty case throughout. Upon successful completion of this physically and mentally demanding course, delegates will have a working knowledge of the legislation and safe working practices expected for Confined Space work including entry control, how emergencies and problems occur and how as responders to such incidents along with partner agencies can keep themselves safe and provide optimal casualty care.
Compliance

Confined Space Regulations 1997, National Occupational Standards for Working in Confined Spaces – EUSCS03 (entirely) as well as elements of 04 and 08. HART TIS NH06.

Previous knowledge

HART Paramedics who have attended BA training and have manual handling training.

Requirements

Age 18+ and must be clean-shaven each morning for Breathing Apparatus use. Delegates must be fit for training including ladder climbs and moving through enclosed spaces (crawling is required for short distances) whilst wearing EDBA and manoeuvring casualties.

Progression

Recertification & Refresher training is recommended every 2 years by means of re-attending this course.

Theoretical elements

- Classroom sessions cover legislation around Confined Space, classifications, specified risks and other risks including atmospheric hazards and other theoretical elements.
- A course manual is issued. Delegates must complete a written exam paper is sat which is assessed.
- A course workbook is issued which is assessed.

Practical elements

- Practical sessions include teaching sessions and scenario-based training to put the theoretical elements into practice.
- Sessions will include Sav Ox use, Gas monitoring, entry control processes, access equipment and PPE, emergency drills, working alongside rescue systems and services and trench rescue protocols.
- Toe-capped boots and overalls are required.
- Specialist equipment is provided.
- All practical elements are holistically assessed throughout the course.
