The aim of this unit is to reflect the national occupational standard for a High-Risk Confined Space environment. This unit covers both the water and non-water industry areas.
This course is for personnel with no existing Confined Space knowledge who are required to work in a High-Risk Confined Space environment where they will be overseen by a qualified entry controller.
Understand legislation to know what defines a confined space and how they are classified.
Practical training focused on identifying and understanding the risks and associated control measures.
Hands on training with gas monitors and numerous wears of breathing apparatus to become familiar with the use of this critical equipment.
Confined Space Regulations 1997, National Occupational Standards for Working in Confined Spaces – EUSCS03
No previous knowledge or experience required.
Age 18+ and must be clean shaven each morning for Breathing Apparatus use. Participants must be fit for training including ladder climbs and moving through enclosed spaces (crawling is required for short distances) whilst wearing a bulky circa 15kg BA set
Recertification & Refresher training is recommended every 2 years by means of re-attending this course. This course is a prerequisite for advanced Confined Space courses, including: 6160-05 Supervising Teams, 6160-08 Member of Rescue and Recovery Team, 6160-07 Director of Rescue and Recovery Team
- This course contains classroom sessions covering legal responsibilities, Confined Space classifications, risk assessment and mitigation, atmospheric monitoring, ventilation, emergency procedures and safe systems of work.
- A course manual is issued.
- A written paper is issued which is assessed.
- Practical sessions will include familiarisation with self-contained breathing apparatus as well as Emergency Breathing apparatus, using harnesses, tripods, winches and davit arms.
-The theoretical knowledge is put into play through delegates completing work tasks in a number of High-Risk (NC4 and 4X) Confined Spaces.
- Toe-capped boots and overalls are a requirement.
- All specialist equipment is provided.
- All practical elements are holistically assessed throughout the course.

This 2-day course equips delegates to be able to identify and work safely in a Medium-Risk Confined Space. The course has theoretical input in the classroom and then numerous training scenarios and drills are covered top keep delegates engaged.
This course is designed for those experienced in Confined Space working who wish to plan works and to oversee these works.
This 1-day course trains delegates to be able to identify a low-risk Confined Space (National Classification 1), mitigate risks and conduct simple entries into these spaces. Gas monitoring is included.
This 1-day course covers awareness level knowledge of Confined Spaces, to ensure delegates can identify Confined Spaces and be aware of suitable work practices.
