This 3-day course is designed for personnel who have completed the Rope Rescue Operator Instructor Training within the last 2 years and are ready for assessment or for those needing to recertify as a Rope Rescue Operator Instructor.
The Rope Rescue Operator Instructor Assessment & Recertification is a 3-day course evaluating the competency of individuals functioning as Rope Rescue Operator Instructors. It accommodates those who completed Rope Rescue Operator Instructor training within 2 years, those requiring recertification, or those seeking to transfer from equivalent awards. The course reviews instructional methods, training design, safety protocols, scenario assessment, and legal compliance. Delegate demonstrate proficiency in delivering Rope Rescue Operator training across classroom and practical sessions, as well as scenario creation to achieve specific learning outcomes. Successful candidates can instruct Rope Rescue Operators and provide CPD training in the associated skillsets. This course ensures instructors maintain current best practices, facilitating skilful instruction and adherence to safety standards in Rope Rescue operations.

Previous knowledge
Completed the Rope Rescue Operator Instructor Training within the last 2 years AND holding an in-date Rope Rescue Supervisors award OR hold an in-date Rope Rescue Operator Instructors award AND Rope Rescue Supervisors award. All delegates must also hold an Advanced First Aid Award.
Requirements
Age 18+. Delegates must be fit for this physically demanding course requiring the ability to demonstrate all Rope Rescue Technician skillsets with a high degree of competence.
Progression
Recertification & Refresher training is recommended every 2 years by means of re-attending this course. Completion of this assessment at Outreach Rescue satisfies Module ‘Specialist Rescue Instructor (5087EXQ)’ for the Diploma in Specialist Rescue and is worth 50 credits.
Theoretical elements
- Classroom sessions cover training planning and delivery, the role of instructors, reviewing and assessing, risk assessing, lesson planning, teaching models and legislative considerations.
- Delegates must produce training rescue plans, risk assessments and lesson plans which are assessed.
- A course manual is issued.
- A written paper confirms learning.
Practical elements
- Practical sessions involve delegates delivering training sessions to peers, assessing peers abilities, creating and delivering training scenarios to draw out specific learning outcomes.
- Specialist equipment is provided.
- All practical elements are holistically assessed throughout the course.
