The 5-day Safe Work at Height & Rope Rescue Operator course equips delegates with essential knowledge and skills to work safely at height and perform rope rescue operations
The Safe Work at Height & Rope Rescue Operator course equips delegates with essential knowledge and skills to work safely at height and perform rope rescue operations. Topics covered include rescue equipment usage, hazard assessment, fall prevention theory, legal requirements, and practical application of rescue techniques. This is a physically demanding course, with a lot of time spent in rope systems. Successful delegates will be competent in working at height and under the supervision of a Rope Rescue Supervisor can contribute to complex Rope Rescue operations.

Previous knowledge

No previous knowledge or experience required.

Requirements

Age 18+. Delegates must be fit for physical training requiring the delegates to climb ropes and structures, and to haul on lines.

Progression

Recertification & Refresher training is recommended every 2 years by means of attending a 3 day recertification course. Successful completion allows entry to: Rope Supervisor & Rope Instructor Training. If delivered at Outreach Rescue this course satisfies Module ‘Specialist Rescue 1 (5084EXQ)’ for the Diploma in Specialist Rescue and is worth 30 credits.

Theoretical elements

- Classroom sessions cover legal requirements, the theory of fall prevention and the hierarchy of safety systems, fall factors and hazard awareness.
- A written exam paper confirms learning.
- A course manual is issued."

Practical elements

- This course is predominantly practical, and includes teaching sessions and scenario based learning covering equipment usage (including numerous devices), knots and rigging, anchor selection and utilisation, work restraint, fall arrest systems, work positioning systems, ascending and descending lines, lowering and hauling systems for rescue, mechanical advantage, rescue systems, cableways and stretcher use.
- The course is holistically assessed throughout culminating in a series of assessment tasks on the last day.
