Description
This 3-day recertification course provides refresher and update training for existing Safe Work at Height & basic Rescue Instructors and re-establishes competence in the associated skillsets.
This recertification course is a demanding 3-day programme aimed at experienced and proficient Safe Work at Height & Basic Rescue Instructors who require update and refresher training and to re-establish their competency as a Safe Work at Height & Basic Rescue Instructor. This course recaps and recertifies instructional skills, training design, safety considerations, scenario evaluation, and legal compliance with Working at Height. Delegate are given opportunities to deliver training sessions to peers which is assessed, with learning points and constructive feedback offered throughout. The course covers classroom-based learning and requires delegates to create and present classroom sessions to their peers. Practical teaching sessions are delivered by the delegates across all the associated skill sets, including delegates planning scenario-based training to draw out specific learning points. Following successful completion, delegates can continue to deliver comprehensive training in Safe Work at Height & the use of typical rescue packs.

Previous knowledge

In-date Safe Work at Height & Basic Rescue award (issued within 3 years) OR equivalent award if wanting to transfer to the Outreach Rescue award scheme, contact the office for details.

Requirements

Age 18+. Delegates must be fit for this physically demanding course requiring the ability to demonstrate all Safe Work at Height and Basic Rescue skillsets with a high degree of competence.

Progression

Recertification & Refresher training is recommended every 2 years by means of re-attending this course.

Theoretical elements

- Classroom sessions cover training planning and delivery, the role of instructors, reviewing and assessing, risk assessing, lesson planning, teaching models and legislative considerations.
- Delegates must produce training rescue plans, risk assessments and lesson plans which are assessed.
- A course manual is issued.
- A written paper confirms learning.

Practical elements

- Practical sessions involve delegates delivering training sessions to peers, assessing peers abilities, creating and delivering training scenarios to draw out specific learning outcomes.
- Delegates must demonstrate the use of rescue packs for rescuing a delegate in difficulty.
- Specialist equipment is provided.
- All practical elements are holistically assessed throughout the course.
