Description
This 5-day course equips delegates with the knowledge and skills to train and assess others in Safe Work at Height techniques and basic rescue procedures.
This combined training and assessment course is a demanding 5-day instructional programme aimed at experienced and proficient Safe Work at Height & Basic Rescue operators who aspire to train others in these skillsets. This course covers instructional skills, training design, safety considerations, scenario evaluation, and legal compliance with Working at Height. Initially, delegates are equipped with the skillsets to deliver training sessions in Safe Work at Height & Basic Rescue, and then are given opportunities to deliver training sessions with constructive feedback. The course covers classroom-based learning and requires delegates to create and present classroom sessions to their peers. Practical teaching sessions are delivered by the delegates across all the associated skill sets, which progress to delegates planning scenario-based training to draw out specific learning points. Following successful completion, delegates can deliver comprehensive training in Safe Work at Height & the use of typical rescue packs.

Previous knowledge

In-date Safe Work at Height & Basic Rescue award (or higher, e.g. Rope Rescue Operator) (issued within 3 years), experience of Safe Work at Height & the use of Rescue Packs

Requirements

Age 18+. Delegates must be fit for this physically demanding course requiring the ability to demonstrate all Safe Work at Height and Basic Rescue skillsets with a high degree of competence.

Progression

Recertification & Refresher training is recommended every 2 years by means of attending the 3-day Safe Work at Height & basic Rescue Recertification course.

Theoretical elements

- Classroom sessions cover training planning and delivery, the role of instructors, reviewing and assessing, risk assessing, lesson planning, teaching models and legislative considerations.
- Delegates must produce training rescue plans, risk assessments and lesson plans which are assessed.
- A course manual is issued.
- A written paper confirms learning.

Practical elements

- Practical sessions involve delegates delivering training sessions to peers, assessing peers abilities, creating and delivering training scenarios to draw out specific learning outcomes.
- Delegates must demonstrate the use of rescue packs for rescuing a delegate in difficulty.
- Specialist equipment is provided.
- All practical elements are holistically assessed throughout the course.
