Description
This 1-day course covers awareness level knowledge of Confined Spaces, to ensure delegates can identify Confined Spaces and be aware of suitable work practices.
The majority of deaths involving Confined Spaces in the UK involve people with no training or awareness of what Confined Spaces are or the risks associated with Confined Spaces. The leading causes of death in such incidences arise from hazards that cannot be seen, heard, smelt or tasted, and by the time a problem is noticed it is already too late. Furthermore, two-thirds of deaths in Confined Spaces are of those who enter intending to rescue another. This course aims to educate delegates in these risks to prevent such patterns of events from occurring. Delegates will be able to recognise the defining characteristics of confined spaces and the associated risks which make them so dangerous, along with the legal and ethical responsibilities that govern Confined Spaces. The one-day course is classroom-based and will include some basic hands-on sessions with typical Confined Space equipment. The course enables delegates to be able to recognise the defining features of confined spaces and to know the various requirements for working in such Confined Spaces of different Risk categories or National Classifications. The course goes into detail on correct working procedures so students can identify correct practices when dealing with external contractors. This course does not involve any entry to confined spaces and does not train delegates to be entrants, supervisors or entry controllers of confined spaces. The course is not assessed, but delegates will find the theoretical content to be demanding, as such this course is suited to those in positions of responsibility within their workplaces.
